I really like both of these songs. I've played both on the air many times.
I heard Nelly Furtado's "Turn Out The Lights" yesterday coming out of a lady's car. Its been stuck in my head. That made me think of the Enrique song for some reason.
The first time I heard "Don't Turn Off The Lights" from Enrique Iglesias I remember well.
Enrique's album Escape came out and exploded. Hero was a huge hit and then became a hit again with the "Attack Remix" following the 9/11 tragedy in America. I had a great relationship with his record rep at Interscope and had many copies to give away at KKOR. When I left that station, I of course took all those with me to Marshalltown, Iowa and KDAO.
One afternoon I was driving to a little vacation with the gal I was dating (turned out to be my ex wife...different story). She loved Enrique so of course I gave her one of those Escape CDs :) She had it in the cd player and the song came on. I didn't like it at all. It sounded really stupid. Then Erica said "That's my favorite one on this CD so far". We stayed at a bed and breakfast and visited a state park with some caves. It is, literally, the best weekend the two of us spent together. Its a great memory.
About 2 months later the song was released as a single and became a minor hit. Minor mostly because it was the 6th or 7th single from that album.
So why not enjoy both of these songs?
