Hopefully no audio exists of any of this anywhere...

After high school I headed to Saint Joseph's College on a $1,500 a year radio scholarship in 1996.  I thought I was on my way to the big time, brother!

My freshman year, Ryan Murphy and myself were given the 10 pm to Sign Off (3 am) shift on Wednesday into Thursdays.

We were awful but boy did we have fun.  The show was called "The Night Trip".  We usually did some kind of count down with a theme and gave away crappy promo cds with Simpson's Trivia (usually won by the guy down the hall in our dorm called Flounder).  We also had a feature called the 12:20 Hit of The Week.  Every week it was Mr. Big - To Be With You.  Yeah we were dumb, but it was a 50 watt station and we were 18.

At the same time, I was working in "real" radio for Brothers Broadcasting in town and at their station in Oxford, Indiana WIBN (as you can see from the sporty awesome t-shirt).  This "real" radio job was playing commercials during sports broadcasts....but I was living the dream and loving it.

This is the board from WPUM.  The station was all brand new and we were the first incoming class to use it.  The production room had this brand new thing where you could record audio...on the COMPUTER!  Also note, these pictures were taken on FILM.

Nice side view of the on air side and our nasty stack of cds.  I ran the board and Murph sat where those headphones are with a hand held mic.  Yeah even then I had to run the board!

This is the hall and lobby.  Before the school converted this into the campus radio station it was a computer lab.  In about 2 more weeks after this picture was taken, all the walls were covered with posters of bands you never heard of...its was great.

Murph took most of the pics...and alas this is the only picture I have of my lost buddy...anyone ever finds him get him my info.

Am I not the absolute most coolest guy in the world....I was such a tool.  Perhaps that is why they called me "Tool" at Saint Joe?  I was 18, skinny, and had hair!  Wow.

Every week after the show, Murph and I would go to the truck stop in Remington to eat and stay up until our class at 8 am.  Sometimes we event went.
