I move a lot....I mean A LOT. Many of my friends know of my 30 or so blue plastic totes that I use to move with/live out of.
At the bottom of one of them was a cassette labeled "4-20-05 7pm start".
I was happy to find out that this was an unscoped aircheck of my buddy Lonny Tyler not too long after he started doing nights on WRXQ.

Lonny was shifting from doing live afternoons to voice tracking evenings. At this point, he would come in around 7pm and do an hour or so live while he voice tracked the rest of the night show. Eventually I had Lonny doing the show from home, but this was just the start.
Also, Freak had joined the station and really helped me shape the music sound of the station...he really helped me add depth to the library and edge to the sound that I wanted.
This is really neat...you get almost 90 minutes of WRXQ in 2005 from about 7pm through 8:30pm.
You'll catch a little of the Hair Club For Men. A great, stolen, idea of mine that also took off. You may notice that the Hair Club had not one, not two, but 3 sponsors! The show was sold out every night of the week. See what can happen when not only the airstaff is excited about a feature...but so is a sales person...and so are the clients...and so are the listeners.
I don't know why we didn't just do this 24/7 on the station...I wanted to do the hair club format, full time, many times but none of the corporate guys at Next Media liked it. I mean an hour long music feature that was voice tracked at 8pm at night on a suburban station...that beat every Chicago station in our market except WGN....and made more money than my entire mid day show with sponsorships...yeah that wouldn't work...
The audio will prove how random this find is...as Lonny is all but invisible in the first hour and the Hair Club was rockin until the tape ended...hope you enjoy anyway, like I did!
