One of my favorite things I ever did in radio was a feature called "The 10 O'Clock KISS Off With Matt Carter"
I was a big KISS fan, thanks to my friend Dave North, and never heard enough KISS on the radio.
At WRXQ, I had some programming control. I was allowed to insert almost any music features I wanted, the rest of our music list was a bit tight and came from corporate.
For my mid-day show I chose to play 3 KISS songs at 10 O'Clock. I had a lot of fun with it. I usually had a theme for the day, like All Except Ace or Sing It Paul, and would give random "Crazy KISS Facts".
The feature actually caught on! I had a website where I podcasted them and had all sorts of cool graphics that listeners made for me. Alas that stuff is lost to cyberspace...but I was able to recover a few full shows from the 10 O'Clock KISS Off. Thanks to this website, I have reconnected with one of the KISS Off fans who still has the podcasts and some graphics possibly. I can't wait to get them up here.
After I left WRXQ, they stopped the feature...but Program Director Freak got several emails and decided to put it back on the air. He it called "The Daily Duece" but it made me smile thinking that I actually did something that, at least a few, people were passionate about.
This one is an all request KISS Off, that happened quite often. This was one of the first people to email me about loving the feature and his name was Curtis Brown. He listened at work and was a big KISS fan. This was one of the few KISS Off's that included a phoner...I produced most of the KISS Off's at my home studio and brought them into work so that made phone calls difficult. Listening back to this show, I wonder how much better it could be today with the new technology...and it was only 5 years ago.
I hope you enjoy it. It aired on 10-31-2005
